The End of the Road?

It's looking very much like it!

Wanting to continue running, I thought of Blackmores Half Marathon but found there was no accommodation available anywhere near the start or finish; everything booked out.

I turned to Melbourne Half Marathon or the 10km and found that all events there were full and no further entries taken.

For myself, I can't see any future in running, rightly or wrongly, unless I have a goal to work towards and there doesn't appear to be one.

For these reasons and some other personal ones, for now, I have no motivation to run and will leave Blogland until or unless I can see some reason to continue running.

It's been fun and I've had a wonderful 'run'! Thanks to all who have stopped by over the years giving their support.

  1. Lucky Legs, I have known you for quite some time - you may not remember me, but that doesn't matter, whatever you decide to do I salute you and I thank you for your energy, passion and most of all your class.

Enjoy yourself for now and if you ever do decide to come back to running, we will all be better people for it.

  2. Norma, far be it from me to try and dissuade you from your path, but if it helps any, you're welcome (in fact, we'd love for you) to stay at our place for Blackmores. Send me a PM through coolrunning if you'd like to.

  3. Gary, I remember you well! How could I forget you and your wife 'escorting' me back to
    Rydges after the marathon!

Bruce, thank you for your kind offer. I'd promised Jim to run the ACTVAC half marathon for which I'd been training. Having done that, the spark seems to have gone out.

Thank you both, Gary & Bruce, for your kind fellow-feeling.

This is a difficult and lonely road that I now 'run', maybe only temporarily; I don't know.

  4. LL - we will miss you so much. If you do decide to stop running for any length of time, please blog just now and then so that we can follow what you are up to. You have so many friends in Blogland who care about you and are so inspired by you, especially me. I just love reading your blog and it is always so exciting when you appear in Canberra for a run. Jim would be very, very proud of you. I agree wholeheartedly with Griffin and I do hope we can keep in touch. Big hugs. Remember you are much loved and admired. xx

  5. I hope you do decide to continue your running career - you're too young to retire! And you're running so well - you're at the peak of your game!

It's a shame you're so far from Canberra as there are plenty of low-key events on down here, and a good social scene too. Anyway, don't make any sudden decisions regarding a permanent retirement from running. You'll be missed!

  6. LL, whether you return to running for 20 more years, or find that your running days are mostly behind you, you will have set a standard we youngsters will strive to emulate. It's all good! But if you do manage to keep going, all the more challenge for us!

  7. I hear you Strewth, Ewen and speedygeoff. Thanks so much for your thoughts....have taken them all on board!

I thing you have made a good point, Ewen, in that I now find myself at a place and time when driving long distances to anywhere, once a pleasure, has become a burden.

Hence I am between a rock and a hard place (Canberra and Sydney)when it comes to taking part in events. I think this is part of my problem now and weighs heavily on my lack of motivation.

  10. My father had to give up running in his late 70s because of arthritis in his knees but I suspect he would have loved to have kept going. But who knows at what point in our lives we come to mentally not want to run anymore. You have had a great career and been an inspiration for me and many others.

You have paved a path for all us youngsters to follow as we run off into the sunset. Thanks for that.

All the best for the future.
