Light rain meant all the workers were off so I had the entire new Renwick development streets to myself!  I enjoyed this fact and also that the day was cool and the rain was light....in fact, just right!  I even did an extra kilometre.

Addendum:
If anyone reading here knows anything about buying a laptop, please add your tips here.  Not the most expensive please!   Just something for internet access, Office, email, etc. The reason I'm asking is that the very next time this desktop crashes, I have to get a new computer and I have my heart and mind set on a laptop so as I can have it with me at all times!  Pretty sick, I know, but it's my lifeline to the rest of the world!

I've done some research, talked to salespeople but I think some of you who call in here might have ideas from your own experience.  If so, you'll be doing me a favour by adding your tips, so go right ahead and tell me what you think I should buy when the inevitable happens!

Oh, another thought....and most important  :  the best place to buy!

  1. I have an ASUS EeePC netbook (smaller than a laptop), same as Ruth's. Bruce bought one too. They're around the $250-$300 mark. Ideal for travel, and long battery life (6 cell battery compared to 3 cell). Ruth has a larger monitor for hers as well for home use. Only thing they don't have compared to a full sized laptop is a CD/DVD drive, but you can download most software you want to use (or get an external drive if you need one).

  3. Mine cost $376 at JB Hi-Fi in May last year. I replaced my stolen one with the next model of the same laptop and I've been very happy with it. Mine has 10hrs battery life and Bluetooth etc. I do find plugging it into a larger monitor at home makes it easier on my eyes as it's a very small screen for using all the time and causes a bit of eye strain. It's wonderful for travel and I always take it with me so that I can blog when I'm away. It's an ASUS EeePC like Ewen's. I also have an external hard drive which I use for backup sometimes. I also bought a good mouse as I prefer using a proper mouse with it. It's a wireless Logitech M305 mouse and cost $41 so is a good quality mouse. Good luck when you start looking. I definitely recommend the convenience of this one. Your training is going well! xx

  4. Wonderful, strewth! Thanks for the details about screen and mouse. They'll think I'm some sort of tech wiz when I start looking!

Sounds just what I'll need. Might have a browse tomorrow at Dick Smith and some others in the area.
