Day 6 - with injury.
Well, it's now 6 days since the pain in my left leg brought last Sunday's long run to a stop & I had to walk the last 5km of 38Km.
Right now, I can't see any improvement & I know I couldn't run even if I had to. Two sessions of Physio during the week & another on Monday; Physio says pain on the outside of the lower leg is referred pain from the damage (or whetever!) to the Gluteus Medius on that side. The strange thing is that the only real pain I feel is in this lower outside part of the leg - a dull throb all the time & more pain doing the lying down side leg raises & one-legged squats which are supposed to strengthen the leg.
I don't know what else to do but go along with the treatment for a few more days, I suppose. Anyhow, I thought I'd leave an update for anyone passing by! Any advice or shared views will be much appreciated...perhaps I should ask on the main message board, but I don't want to bore all of Cool Running with my woes!
Maybe I should ask CR Rudolf!

Nooo, don't ask Rudolf, he'll spirit you away for an NLP session and you'll never be the same again!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what to suggest on your injury as I'm certainly no expert. If it doesn't start coming right in a few days then you might have to consider a second opinion. It might be worth a post on CR, there's lots of people with real knowledge there.
I really hope it starts to improve soon though... I'm sending positive vibes down your way!
Suggestions? That's easy! Do what you're told :-)
ReplyDeleteTake it easy and the pain in the butt will ease away in plenty of time.

Oh heavens...don't ask Rudolf. I dont have time to read his essay reply!! *grins* Also I am sure to immensely disagree with his recommendations *LOL*
ReplyDeleteKeep up the exercises and rest LL. Chickybabe has done all the preparation she needs. Now the goal is to fully recover and get to the start line.
Kind of sad reading you holed up with a broken wing. Hope it gets better soon.
ReplyDeleteYou could try the recently patented Wobbly/Go Girl B.R.I.I.C.E treatment. Beer, rest, ice, (anti)inflammatories, compression and e-mailing all your friends for sympathy. Wishing you a speedy recovery Chickybabe!
ReplyDeleteTLC Chickybabe. Feel the love coming your way Chickybabe.
ReplyDeleteWith rest, a week is a reasonable time to expect to see noticable improvement from a muscle injury. If it hasn't then maybe a second opinion may be worth while especially from a known sports phsio.
ReplyDeleteAll the best for the recovery.
I don't have any advice to offer but I know how frustrated you must feel.
ReplyDeleteWe will definitely NOT be bored if you post on the messageborad... that's what it's there for.
Anyway just think, there may be someone else with the same problem out there too shy to ask for themselves.....
It's a fairly unusual injury so I've no idea about any special tips or prognosis. Maybe it would be a good idea to post on CR about it just in case someone there has experienced it. Don't worry about Rudolph, not everyone agrees with everything he says, but it is good to get an alternative opinion sometimes.
ReplyDeleteLL I am sooo sorry to hear your wings are clipped for the moment. give it some time.... I found that with my hip/glute prob in novemeber rest and doing the exercices fixed the problem. But you should always seek another opinion if you are not convinced.
ReplyDeleteTake it easy, chin up and lots of good thoughts coming your way!!!
Thanks for keeping us up to date LL.
ReplyDeleteI can't offer any advice on this particular injury but know how you feel. Last time I was injured I thought it was never going to get better. But I just persevered and did as I was told and in time (the time predicted by my physio) I did recover.
Sending lots and lots of good thoughts your way.
Gee I hope that this is just a minor setback in your Canberra Plans LL. Wishing you the best of luck with physio etc.
